Blue Packaged Gummy Bears

The disturbing shade of Villanueva Saravia

hat Q most wonderful country is Uruguay. That's the idea with which we are bombarded day and night for some reactionary and omnipresent advertising. This land does not change anything, repeated a thousand times a day propaganda.
Read the book Plot to Uruguay. Who killed Villanueva Saravia? , Mario Burgos and published by Metro, by contrast, leaves the opposite sense.
The Cerro Largo mayor found dead in his home on August 12, 1998. Had 33, big ambitions and a growing political popularity. Before any serious investigation would be carried out, the then Interior Minister Luis Hierro announced that it was a suicide. The subsequent judicial inquiry in his favor.
Now Burgos disturbing book claims that such research was marked by inexplicable omissions, many contradictions and a general lack of rigor.
Among other accusations, Burgos said, citing hundreds of passages in the file:
Witnesses were never isolated. The judge interviewed the first of them just eight days after the appearance of the body. The house was given to the widow the next day, precluding any further investigation. Not learned or investigated why Villanueva had extended the time of the police guard his house and asked a few days before a budget to put an alarm system. The bullet that killed Villanueva was not preserved for Justice. The gun was again fired, so they no longer served as proof of anything. No fingerprints were searched the house of the dead. No one seemed to suspect that the mayor's truck had been parked outside the residence with the keys, which never did Villanueva. An important forensic evidence, almost essential in every hypothetical case of suicide, Taylor maneuver, was not carried out the corpse. No analysis of the thumb and index finger of the dead to find traces of gunpowder, as with those who are killed with a gun. No agenda was studied Villanueva. The judicial investigation did not clarify infinite contradictions of the witnesses about who phoned who that fateful night. It took more than four months to collect the testimony of the widow and discarded without investigating several clues provided. Was ruled by very weak explanations, the testimony of a witness who saw him that night into two cars at the residence of the mayor. There was a "psychological autopsy" of the dead, advisable in these cases. That's right: there was a "technical expertise", a sort of simulacrum of what happened, using a pumpkin as the alleged victim's head!
The statements of witnesses in the record, as recorded by Burgos, causing chills to the reader by its contradictions and its perceived lack of credibility in some cases, but do not seem too disturbed to the prosecutor and the judge.
One of the two secretaries of Villanueva, who was also his lover, gave testimony in court two opposite and contradictory. It was impossible that the two were true, as they were and are incompatible. How did the prosecutor and the judge? Not prosecuted for perjury, but took the statement by some more suited to the theory of suicide. The other simply discarded.
A witness heard the same secretary to call his mother, then living in the town of Fraile Muerto, and say, "Mom, Villa and is dead."
Melo A journalist reported, according to Burgos, which Fraile Muerto was learned from the death of Villanueva at least two hours earlier than in Melo and Montevideo. Neither the prosecutor nor the judge were interested his testimony.
The couple of the secretary-lover also said something to the magazine and other PS opposed in court. What did the judge and prosecutor? Just accept that involved settling the case on the grounds that he had lied to the magazine.
would be very healthy for the credibility of the judge and prosecutor Ricardo Miguez Gustavo Zubia responded to allegations of Burgos.
But the book is more disturbing still. Plot the Uruguayan is written by one who was a close associate of Villanueva. Burgos was a lawyer and personal advisor Saravia in the last two stormy years of his life, while director of the Legal Department of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.
is clearly a book written by someone who felt close to the mayor died. And the work is not about life but about Villanueva investigation into his death.
But even so, the disturbing portrait of Villanueva Saravia appears in the background.
A politician who did not hesitate to buy votes with cash money. He placed his friends in public office to left and right. Violating traffic rules to be mayor. He used public funds to pay for holidays private. So concerned about improving the effectiveness of the Municipality of Cerro long as for sleeping with the wives of his allies and political opponents and then have one more element to pressure. Peron and enthusiastic admirer of Hitler, who studied the Nazi methods to captivate the masses. Mein Kampf was his bedtime reading. I had it every night at the lightbox.
That is another element that makes the book so disturbing. As television continues to repeat that we are so fantastic, the Uruguayan Plot is doubly disturbing. Because it is hard to see how a politician of that profile in just a few years achieved a projection privileged political and catapulted him a national figure. And no less hard is to read as his death was suicide since the award as political power and investigated in a manner so pathetic in the judiciary. Burgos
unwittingly ends up providing a chilling portrait of Uruguay.
This land is the paradise of cheap advertising. You need to change much.
